Castro Statement on Release of the Mueller Report

WASHINGTON—Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), Chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Vice Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and a member of the House Intelligence and Education and Labor Committees, released the following statement today in response to Attorney General Barr’s release of the redacted Mueller Report:

“It’s clear that Attorney General Barr has deliberately misrepresented the Special Counsel’s conclusions. The report paints a damning portrait of an unethical President who tethered his political aspirations to the malign actions of a foreign adversary. In the end, the report presents significant evidence that the President obstructed justice and tried to cover his tracks.

“While the Special Counsel may be forbidden from holding a President accountable for illegal actions, Congress is not. Congress must have access to an unredacted version of the report to fulfill its constitutional responsibilities in this matter. We must also hear directly from Special Counsel Mueller. He should be prepared to answer this question: Based on your findings, if you were a member of this Congress, would you move forward with impeachment proceedings?

“I thank Special Counsel Mueller for his service to our country and look forward to his public testimony before Congress.”
